december goals

Y'all!!! I have been a little M.I.A. lately because I have been a busy busy bee... November was super busy! My mother in love came up to visit - she is in the process of retiring and moving up here (YAY for family!!), then I went to my grandmother's for a couple weeks to help her (she has had some health issues this year and needs assistance in the everyday things), then a few days after I got back we headed down to Las Vegas to visit my mother in love and brother in love for a few days before the holidays and then we were off to Alaska to spend Thanksgiving with my parents! We just got home the other day and I have so much to catch up on!

Like I said, November was busy, but I was able to tackle my goals!!

November Goals

-Spend some quality time just me and my mother-in-love *yes! It is awesome to have her up here to visit and I can't wait until she is up here for good!
-Styled maternity shoot - this was AMAZING!! I can't wait to share these images with you!!! I also had so much fun making the earthy crown for it!
-Spend some time with my grandma - Yes! I loved getting to spend time with my grandma! She passed some amazing family heirlooms down to me, that I will hopefully be able to bring home come Christmas!!
-family shoot - This was so much fun! This family knows how to play together and they are soo cute!!!
-Spend some much needed time with my parents for Thanksgiving - This was such a perfect week! I loved every bit of being home with my parents! (the picture above was taken in their backyard - they have so many beautiful trees on their property!!)
-Edit, Edit, Edit!! - I got most of my editing done, but not all of it but I'm still working!

December Goals
-Continue to edit like crazy
-Do massive amounts of laundry (my least favorite part of coming home from a trip)
-Send out our Christmas cards (I usually like to have them sent out already, but I'm a bit behind this year)
-Deep clean our carpets (We just got a new vacuum - to replace our almost 10 year old one and let me say it is AMAZING!!- and a deep clean carpet cleaner and we started yesterday and it's awesome!)
-Shoot a birth (yay!)
-Get our Christmas tree!
-Host Christmas (hopefully!!)
-Watch all the Christmas movies

so what, who cares

I am a happy, mostly agreeable person (see above). I like a lot of things, I over use the word love (but not disingenuously), everything is my favorite. But there are some things that make me say "so what, who cares". (side note: If Derek or I get upset or frustrated or stressed -about anything- the first thing we do (besides pray) is say that phrase, in that accent, with that face. And instantly we feel better - try it!) So in the case that you were wondering what makes me say "and the other thing is... so what." here are a few of them.

Fine print: The thoughts and words in this post are my own, I'm not asking you to see my point of view nor am I asking for you to try to sway me in another direction. I do not judge anyone who has different opinions nor am I trying to offend anyone who feels differently.

1. Frozen and the song Let It Go.
So what, who cares!?
To be honest, I think this one could have possibly been because I watched it way after it came out and there had been so much hype about it, so I had high expectations that I was going to be IN LOVE with the movie. But I watched it and all I could think was "meh"... and the song, while catchy, is not that great.... maybe I just don't like the lady's voice (which I don't really care for - not that she isn't good, I just don't care for it...) but I have heard other covers of the song and wasn't wowed. Probably the only thing I liked about the movie was that the frozen girl shoots sparkly snowflakes out of her hands! Frozen, I'm over you, but to be honest, I was never under you. (Friends reference anyone??)

2. Wine (or any alcoholic anything for that matter).
Who cares?!
Just yuck. I can pretty much taste alcohol in anything and I don't like it. I've heard that it's (wine, beer, other stuff) an acquired taste and that's fine, but I have no desire to acquire a taste for it. People always try to tell me "Oh but this one doesn't really taste like beer/alcohol/wine/nasty" I don't buy it yo! It all tastes enough like it that I don't want it or even want to try it. However, if we go out to a restaurant, Derek always tries to get me to taste his beer because I make weird faces (it's just so gross and I can't control my face) and he likes to laugh at them. Other than all of that, I just feel gross after having any of the above. Wine/alcohol/beer you are EW.
So what?!

3. Soup or stews (with the exception of tomato soup).
Again, just yuck. I've never really cared for warm/hot liquids (I've had my fair share of hot chocolates and pumpkin spice lattes, but I just hate that they are hot sometimes...) so that is one con of these soups and stews, they are hot. But the main thing I don't like about soups and stews is... well everything, but I don't like all the mushy stuff in them, which is why I think that I can do tomato soup, there is nothing mushy floating around in it, but also grilled cheese goes perfectly with tomato soup and grilled cheese is my favorite. I don't know any recipes, but I have tasted lots of different ones (Derek loves soup and stews, and my mom would make some growing up) and my least favorite mushy thing to find in a bite is celery... oh my gosh just thinking about it gives me chills (the bad kind). I wasn't sure, but from what I remembered, stews are thicker and usually have a good amount of steak pieces in them (which I don't like...surprise surprise?) so I googled what the difference was between the two and this was the description it gave...

"Generally, stews have less liquid than soups, are much thicker and require longer cooking over low heat. While soups are almost always served in a bowl, stews may be thick enough to be served on a plate with the gravy as a sauce over the solid ingredients."

If I knew nothing of soups or stews, that description would be enough to turn me away. Hey soups and stews, go home, you're disgusting.
So what, who cares!?

4. Beyoncè.
What's the big deal. I don't get it...I mean, I'm not really a fan of her music or the lyrics she uses (not that I'm super familiar with any of them though) but I read a blog post about one of her concerts. Now don't get me wrong, this is one person's view/take on a concert and I have never been to a Beyoncè concert, so I don't know what they are like, but, I dunno, if it is even a fraction of what she described, that is nothing I want to watch/listen to/support. But regardless of what Britt described in her blog post, I actually googled and read some of Beyoncè's lyrics, and I really don't like them, cuss words and other things I don't care to hear someone sing about. I used to have some of her older music and I had a Destiny's Child song or two, but I also used to pee my pants as a toddler, but I don't do that anymore. Also I've seen this quote thing all over Pinterest about having the same amount of hours in a day as Beyoncè - I don't get the hype about this either... we also have the same amount of hours in a day as Ruth, or as everyone. And from what I've read (both her lyrics and about her concert), I'd be fine if she had an extra hour or two than me. Beyoncè, you're beautiful and you have lovely hair, you're probably nice, and you might have good intentions or whatever, but no thank you.
So what, who cares!?

5. Trains.
So what!?
When I was in like 5th grade or something I saw this documentary about trains and how dangerous they can be - it showed how some tracks have electricity in them and that just by stepping on the track you can be electrocuted and die! It also showed people who tried to cross the tracks before the train got there, but they didn't make it, or when cars get stuck on train tracks and trains can't slow down very quickly, validity of the show aside, I've been afraid of them ever since. But then when you think about it... they are SUPER huge, they move SUPER fast and they are SUPER loud... and they try to fool you, by making cartoons of themselves like Thomas and they make you think they are saying "chooo choooooo" LIES! Trust me... they are saying "I'mmm gonna get yoooouu!!" Just look at them... they even look scary! When I was in high school, we lived in a community (for about a month) that in order to get to it, you had to cross over train tracks and it was the worst month of my life (ok, maybe I've had worse months, but for real yo!) but I'm glad I didn't rely on myself to drive when we lived there, cause I would have never left and probably would have withered away in that house. I've ridden on a train before, a couple times, and I've been on subways and trams at the airport, but you best believe it's not an easy move. Trains, I'm afraid of you.
Who cares?!

What makes you say "So what, who cares!?"

CHRISTMAS!!!!

Y'all... Christmas is only 44 days away!!! I can't really tell you of my love for this time of year! So many cherished memories! The snow, the cold, the jolly air in everyone's step, the decorations, and of course the most important, celebrating Jesus' birth!

In my opinion there is no such time as too early to start listening to Christmas music or to start decorating, I want as much time as I can to look at all my favorite decorations, and singing some of my favorite songs!!

Every year on September 1 I decorate for autumn, and secretly I can't wait for Halloween, not because of candy or anything but because that is the day I decorate for Christmas!!! This year I may or may not have decorated a day early! As I pulled out the boxes, and started unpacking everything I was giggling and squealing and saying "OH! This is my favorite piece!" then I would pull out the next item, and say "OOHH! This, this is my favorite piece!" and that continued basically the whole time!

Here is a little bit of the house after I got it all decorated!

When do you decorate for Christmas?

november goals

Y'all!! Oh my goodness!!! I can't believe we are in November already!? Where in the world has this year gone!!?? We had our first snow of the season yesterday... well I guess I can't really say that... it didn't snow in town, but the mountains behind our house have snow on them... sadly though, the rest of the week is supposed to be straight up sunny and in the high 60s!? So there is a good chance it will all melt...

October was busy yo! And November is only going to get busier and busier!

last month my goals were:

-Edit, edit, edit
-Make a trip to Apple Hill - We went to Apple Hill, however the only weekend we had available, it was super rainy! We didn't get to pick apples for making apple cider or apple butter, but we got to drive around and taste some apple cider and super awesome harvest pie!! I can't wait to make a trip out there again!
-Carve pumpkins (or maybe paint, or use a technique from pinterest) - So every year I decorate for fall on September 1 and then have all of September and October with those decorations, and then on October 31 I decorate for Christmas, well my mother-in-love was coming up to visit on the 31st and I had some other things to do, so I decorated a day early... this also happened to be the day that we carved pumpkins... woops  :) I carved The Little Mermaid (obviously) and Derek carved a spider
-Start some behind the scenes work for GAP - I didn't get to this... I don't know if I'll be able to get to it this month either? eek.
-GET on my cleaning schedule (that I was supposed to have started in January or something yikes!) - this will have to wait too...
-Stick to our (family) budget more firmly - We did this!! We even had money left over from the first week! Way to go us!
-Get stinkin' excited for some colder weather (last year our first snow of the season was this month, I'm hoping for the same thing this year!!) - Duh I did this!!! C'mon now!

November Goals
-Spend some quality time just me and my mother-in-love
-Styled maternity shoot
-Spend some time with my grandma
-family shoot
-Spend some much needed time with my parents for Thanksgiving
-Edit, Edit, Edit!!

What are your goals for this month?

october - joy of nothing

*this month's joy of nothing*
-the cold mornings when I could see my breath as I walked to the car
-driving around neighborhoods dreaming with my Derek
-having the littlest hint of a cold, so that my voice was a little raspy
-squats
-carving pumpkins while watching scary movies
-buying plane tickets home for the holidays
-cooking in my crockpot for the first time in forever
-getting rained on as we scurried into a little cafe
-sipping on fresh apple cider and munching on fresh harvest pie at the same cafe
-hanging with a sweet friend and the little kittens she is fostering
-exploring the capital grounds in Sacramento with my camera and my Derek

What joy have you found this month?

technology thursday

When I was a little girl my grandma gave me a watch and I was soo proud of it! It had bright red fake animal (snake maybe) textured leather straps, a gold trim on the face plate, and inside the face plate was a mustard seed, with Matthew 17:20 "If you have faith, even as small as a mustard seed, nothing is impossible for you." I loved it! It was my first real "big girl" watch and because the verse was printed on it, that was also one of the first verses I ever memorized. Have you seen a mustard seed before? They are tiny!

Do you know what the definition of faith is? Complete trust in something or someone. COMPLETE trust... not a little bit of trust, or trust when I feel like it has been proved, but COMPLETE trust! That's what we are to have in God. He has never faltered or failed us, He has never forgotten us, He is always faithful, always always! In my bible, Matthew 17:20 reads "I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible." So I created this wallpaper for your iphones and ipads and even your desktops and laptops to keep as a reminder of how mighty our God is, that faith even as small as that little mustard seed nothing is impossible!

autumn on the stove top

We have been having some cooler weather lately and all the chill has gotten me so excited for all the holiday awesomeness that is upon us! So I thought I would give you a recipe I use this time of year to fill the house with the sweet smell of autumn!

What you will need:

a stovetop pot
3 1/2 cups of water
1 orange
1 lemon
1 apple
2 cinnamon sticks (you can also add a few sprinkles of ground cinnamon if you want)
2 bay leaves
a pinch of cloves

Cut up all the ingredients place them in the water filled pot and turn the stove to simmer and all that's left to do is enjoy the sweet spicy smell of autumn!

Books books books - monthly link up

I've talked a little about some of the books I've read this year in previous posts but today I am linking up with Kiki over at In It's Time and Anne from in Residence for this month's The Circle link up to chat everything books!!

I've always been a reader but I stuck to a small genre and didn't really allow myself to try new things... that was until last year (and this year). I mean I didn't go crazy with it, but I added some different genres than I normally read and I added some classic books and I have thoroughly enjoyed expanding my reading experiences!

I actually wrote (and illustrated) a book once. When I was in 9th grade, everyone in my english class went over to the elementary school and had a 1st grader pick us (each 1st grader picked one their own 9th grader) to read to them once or twice a week for a little while (a few months) and over that time, we interviewed them and had to write and illustrate a book, that starred them, for them. I can't remember exactly what mine was about, but I think it involved a basketball player and some animals. I have the book scanned and saved somewhere, so maybe I'll share it here some day? Until then, here are my answers to this month's book questions!

1. What is your favorite book of the year?
Favorite? I hate picking favorites because I always feel bad for all the other things that I didn't pick as my favorite! haha Also I read a lot of books, to which most belonged to a series. The Stephanie Plum series which is currently 21 books long with some 'between the numbers' books and the Divergent trilogy. I loved both of the series, and I read other books, but I'd have to say as a whole the Stephanie Plum series is my favorite - there is action, romance (only a little bit though), and comedy all in one!

2. What are you reading right now?
Currently I am reading Little Women I never read it when I was younger but I really like it! I have tried to identify myself with the girls and see who I am most like. I have decided I am sort of a mix between two; Beth and Jo - quiet and trying to please people like beth, but also artistic and sometimes stubborn like Jo. Have you ever read the book? Who do you most identify with?

3. What book did you just finish?
The last book I finished before Little Women was Peter Pan - I've always been a fan of the movies (well to be honest I am really only familiar with two versions, Hook and Peter Pan, but I have always loved them) and I have always wanted to read it, so I finally did! It was quite different than I expected, but I enjoyed it!

4. What are you reading next?
Right now, I don't currently have a book planned, I have plenty that I need to read still, but I don't know what I will choose. There are a few that are on my want to read list; Mindy Kaling's book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and a classic Wuthering Heights, and The Fault in Our Stars

5. What was your favorite book as a kid?
The books that come to mind are not books that most will probably know... the first book I ever read in its entirety on my own was Norman the Doorman, Norman is a mouse and works as a doorman for a museum of art (a human museum) he lets in other mice and they have to keep hidden from the humans... I won't reveal too much incase you wanted to read it ;). After I read it the first time (with my dad) I begged him to let me read it with him every night! The other book is How a Book is Made y'all, I could not get enough of this book!! I had my mom read it to me EVERY single night, multiple times... She couldn't stand the book, but I LOVED it... I don't know what I loved about it so much, but boy I couldn't get enough of it!

6. What book would you take on a deserted island?
I don't feel like I could answer this accurately as far as books go - there are so many that I haven't read to know what the best choice would be. So my answer is going to be either a "How to Survive" book but probably the Bible, because basically that is a how to survive book in itself...

So how about you? What are your answers to these questions??

midweek links

So toya pes! A long long time ago, I was told (long story short, I was told this by my interpreter - maybe one day I will share this story) that means "Sup dog" in Czech - Well, I just google translated it and apparently "so toya pes" in Czech, means "so toya dog" in Engligh. Somewhere along the way something got mixed up. Anyways, hi.

I have some midweek links for you!

pj chat | vol. 2

Happy Monday y'all! It's been pretty chilly here in the mornings but it heats up pretty good during the day (it's 84° right now.. what!? Weather, don't you know it's October!?)

I'm starting the week off with a PJ chat! Today's chat is brought to you by owl pajama pants, a tye-died t-shirt, and mismatched socks. Feel free to join with me and link your pj chat in the comments!!

THINKING ABOUT: Some upcoming posts for this month! I'm excited for these next few weeks! I have some recipes to share and maybe a couple crafts! :)
EATING: Nothing at the moment, but we did buy some of those cappuccino chips (purely out of curiosity) and I just can't say anything good about them. I mean, I don't like cappuccinos (or really any kind of coffee type drink *aside from pumpkin spice lattes*) so I don't know what I was expecting... but they just aren't good... EW!
LOVING: My autumn nail colors (for this week at least) Essie's Good As Gold and Revlon's Totally Toffee - I love fall colors!
WATCHING: We don't have cable, but we do have netflix and hulu plus and so we have been catching up on some shows that we watch together; Parks and Recreation, How I Met Your Mother, Bones, New Girl, The Mindy Project...
FEELING: Inspired! I recently found something and it has brought back a dream that I've had for as long as I can remember! I will share more later on, but I am excited and kind of nervous at the same time :)
LISTENING TO: Classical Crossover music! I just can't get enough of it lately!
READING: Little Women - I never read it when I was younger and I totally missed out! It's a good book! I can't wait to watch the movie again (I vaguely remember parts of it - so I don't know if I have seen the whole thing or not) when I'm done!
THANKFUL FOR: My mom and our relationship. She called me the other day just to chat about the recent Roloff wedding and how they (my parents) are expecting 2 inches of snow overnight!

What are you up to currently? If you have a post share it in the comments below!! :)

TBT - Chewbacca is that you?

Today I am throwing it back to...
that one time I looked like Chewbacca.

It's hard to believe my hair was ever that long! I have had it short (not much longer than shoulder length) for quite some time now. And even though I am in the process of growing it out (for now), it's hard to remember it being long enough to cover my whole face and then some and make me look like Chewbacca!

Do you have long hair? Have you ever tried a fun Chewbacca selfie?
